Day 2 – Strength.. I love me some resistance exercise, this is part of the appeal for Asylum. I love the feeling of pushing free-weights, I don’t know what it is! Again my legs/glutes prove to be the strongest point while my chest left me on my knees…

Summary

Love it!
October 26, 2011 | Aniter | from Brampton, Ontario

Not only am I getting the challenge I want, I really love the variety. I love the sports theme to the exercises and the Back to Core DVD is great: we always focus on our abs; this core routine focus on our back.

I’m coming up to the big ’5-0′ and it is so important to keep my body injury free. The Asylum is high intensity but the program includes a fabulous stretch segment to help my body recover and lower the risk of injury.

On the highest intensity days (Vertical Plyo and Speed & Agility), I also do Relief: One of the most effective stretch videos I’ve seen. I highly courage Beachbody to continue to add this kind of powerful stretch video in all future programs.

I’m so pleased I added The Asylum to my Beachbody collection.

This is an excellent series.

Get quick on your feet—fast, with this intense cardio workout.

INSANITY Asylum Speed & agility drills need to be looked at just about the most critical targets in your own workout. You ought to perform a few drills twice each week and make certain you concentrate on your form. Quality rules not quantity in terms of speed workout routines. You must train your body to get it done the correct way to begin with. Executing the speed and agility drills slowly first is going to let your body get used to the movements. This is extremely important due to the fact if your body are unable to perform it correct slowly then it will not perform it right at full speed, as your body actually starts to learn what muscle movements are expected it is important to increase intensity in those specific speed exercises.

Fun and effective; needed variety
November 1, 2011 | Rich S. | from Andes, NY

I am a fitness trainer myself. I have learned a great deal from the beachbody products that I’ve purchased; most especially Shaun T. I not only use the products for educational purposes but also for my own fitness use.

I personally felt that the Asylum definately had its challenges and was well thought out and put together. Shaun T. has an effective approach of building cardiovascular condtioning, speed, agility and strength.

The Vertical Plyo was my favorite and by far the most challenging of the routines. His boot camp mentality provided just the right amount of motivation that one would need to push themselves to achieve their desired goals.
The only con that I found with this set was the lack of material. I thought that for the price, six (6) dvds were not enough. It is however understandable due to being only a thirty (30) day program. I would have like to have seen just a little bit more.

I’m excited to see what Volume 2 will bring. I would like to see a program based on high intensity interval training using not only body weight but dumb bells, kettlebells, medicine balls and sand bags. It would be awesome if the program focused on MMA Training to allow people to train like true warriors. I personally feel that Mixed Marital Artists are some of the most disciplined, well trained and physically fit athletes on the planet.

This is it, I finished the Insanity Workout Challenge. Day 63, Shaun T walks you through a basic warm-up and then describes each of the routines you will perform. You are then given a minute to complete the maximum number of repetitions possible for each exercise. Simply record your results on your fitness calendar.

The Fit Test serves two goals:
1. To help you determine if you are ready to take the INSANITY challenge.
2. To track and measure your results. Every two weeks you will retake the fit test to see how you are progressing.

2. Jumping Jacks
3. Heisman’s

The regimen is highly effective for rapid fat burn
December 30, 2011 | Orange penguin | from Orange, CT

I did insanity 3 days/week instead of 6, since I was in no hurry. The sculpting results were impressive. My biggest issue was what I spent at the tailor to have most of my clothes altered!

I will say, from the perspective of a very fit 50 year old that insanity is one of the best programs I have ever seen or done. My only criticisms are that since you use no equipment other than your own body weight that all exercises involve pushing, and no pulling, and that the plyometrics are a bit too traumatic on the joints, particularly the knees.

The program offers no modifications so you need to be a little creative if you want to preserve your joints. All that being said, my teenage kids cannot keep up with me after having completed insanity.

Insanity Workout Overview

Insanity workout the final week, week 9, day 61. Max Interval Plyo will come in at approximately 55 minutes. That is a 10 minute warm-up, 8 min’s of stretches all in all, and 37 minutes on the primary interval training. Because you understand how intense Shaun will make half that time, get ready for this. .. Not only are you leaping, squatting, rotating, and performing push-ups, but you’re performing these movements for 45 seconds each, in 3-minute intervals.

Max Interval Plyo builds upon precisely what Plyo has established, a exercise routine which challenges you to drive oneself for a stretch of time and concentrate on maintaining good form while carrying out high-impact movements one by one with little rest. This is not just demanding on your physical abilities but also your state of mind.

By the time the first interval was completed around the 27:00 minute mark, you are just exhausted. Some of the more interesting moves are the pogo with both right and left legs, power push-ups, and globe twists. By the time you reach level 3 drills in the 3rd interval of the second set, you are just wasted. You finish the workout off with 8 power knees and 4 diamond jacks, and then followed by your standard Insanity stretching.

I purchased Insanity because I figured a 60 day test was not very long to commit to something. It looked like a ton of fun and I know consistency in the excercise is what produces results, and that’s what I saw in the video. I liked that no other equipment was needed other than “enough room for a pile of sweat” and that’s it.

INSANITY Workout DVD #6

Insanity Workout Overview

Core Cardio and Balance it’s Day 60 of the insanity workout program and I have to state it was not really bad. While I say this workout wasn’t that bad, don’t get me wrong, it is still a good work out just not as difficult as the prior workout routines. This particular work out can feel great for a recovery work out and my body can use some rest so I was pleased.

Check out the previous insanity workout review.

According to Shaun T, doing Core Cardio and Balance is a chance for our muscles and body to recover while still giving our heart a bit of a workout. This is not a workout where you are going to go all out. But there is definitely some intensity required. This is all about getting your burn in for the day, allowing your body to recover and getting ready for the Max program.

The warm-up routine is about 7 minutes long and includes some fun exercises that aren’t normally seen in the Insanity warm ups. The main workout is roughly 16 minutes long, and moves quickly from one exercise to the next.

The Warm Up

Switch Heel Kicks (Kind of like a slow/medium jump rope motion).

Mummy Kicks

Football Shuffles (Side to side).

Over the Log (Run in Place, then jump “over the log” Run in Place, repeat).

8 High Knees/8 Power Jacks

8 Fast Feet/8 Hooks

Stretch

Over 40 and never been better
December 30, 2011 | Cyndi | from Rochester NY

For my 40th birthday I was determined to get in the best shape possible. I thought I was in shape; working out on an elliptical machne 45 mins a day. Then I did Insanity. My resting heartbeat went from 65 to 52! I lost inches and lbs. I dropped 2 sizes in clothes even though I only lost 13 lbs. I just turned 42 and I STILL love this workout! It makes me feel like I am right there with Shaun and the team. I like it because it’s not dancy. I am not coordinated and this workout was easy for me to follow.

I am a lifeguard, a swimmer, participate in yoga, bike often, hike 2 times a week (about), I am always at the gym, play tennis, water polo, play soccer occasionally, participate in my school’s rugby club, and I am now taking on the Insanity challenge!

I must say, that when I barely started I was sweating within the first 10 mintutes! Now I am on week 2 and I have gained the stamina needed for the workout and now can keep up! I love how there are girls within Insanity; Tanya, your amazing! I must say, that if I was NOT fit prior to doing Insanity, I do not think I would have what it takes to complete ONE workout!!

I love that I sweated within the first 10 minutes (MY WHOLE BODY) when I barely started, and now I sweat after 15-25 minutes. I LOVE Shaun T and I can not wait to see my results on day 60!I hope to increase my speed as an ahtlele because I am a wing for my rugby team. yayyyyyyyyy, I wish more people would take on the Insanity challenge!!!! : ) ohhhhhh, I wish to come out on Insanity!
Insanity Workout Overview

Insanity workout the final week, week 9, day 57.

Insanity is AWESOME!
December 28, 2011 | Lindsey G | from State College, PA

I’ve always been into exercising and playing sports. I always did the usual, running, lifting, floor exercises, even speed bagging. I’ve always been “thin” and thought of myself as “in shape”.

After starting work after college, it left little time for the gym and my job requires me to sit almost all day (not good for the butt area). I always seem to gain my weight in my butt and love handles. I heard of a friend trying Insanity and then I saw it on a late night commercial. It looked like such a challenge and also fun, so I thought I’d give it a whirl.

I started Insanity in August 2010. The first day of the fit test was tough, I could barely do half of what “Chris & Tanya” could do, but I thought, “Ehh that wasn’t TOO bad”. And then the first day of actual training started. WOW. I was dying half way through the warm up. LOL. The first week was horrible! I could barely lift myself out of bed or get down the stairs. I was so incredibly sore! I always thought 2 a days in sports with suicides, sprints and squats were bad. Mere child’s play compared to Insanity! I was very disciplined with it, I did it every day I was supposed to and changed my eating habits. You know (switched from white to whole wheat bread, eating more healthy food. Lots of fruit and vegetables, fish and chicken. Spinach salads became my best friend for lunch.

I followed the nutrition book that came with Insanity pretty well. I didn’t make every meal the same, but I used it as a guideline of what was good for me to eat and when. I figured out how many calories I needed to eat each day and kept count of everything I was eating. Now I know what and how much I can eat at each meal. I eat 5 times a day.) I started feeling better during the day, I wasn’t tired at work, and had more energy for other things.

I have been keeping Insanity as a part of my life style since I started it. I miss days here and there, but I loved it so much and got such great results (for me), I continue to keep up with it. I always feel great. Seriously, look at my nasty day one BUTT picture… Gross! Insanity helped me get rid of all my weight gain in that region! I gained ½ an inch in my arms, started with a 27 inch waist, and now am at 24 ½ inch waist. Lost almost 2 inches off my butt, and gained a little in my thighs (all muscle). I lost a size in pants. I’m not back in a size 4. I finally was able to pitch those size 6 jeans this year. Pictures don’t do justice.

I would recommend this to anyone who does not have joint problems. It is the hardest work out I’ve ever done. My husband tried it and the first day he told me to call the paramedics after he was done laying on the floor in a puddle of sweat! HAHA. Even now that I’m used to it, I’m still in a pool of sweat when I’m done. It’s extremely hard, but if you can make it through the 60 day challenge, you will be amazed at the results and will most likely want to keep doing it! You won’t be disappointed! Thank you Shaun T! Maybe I’ll try the ASYLUM next

Cool Down & Stretch

Final two minute or so stretch, where you stretch out your shoulders, back and hamstrings. It’s brief, but a necessary way to finish your stretch, and then you’re done with the whole INSANITY workout!

Summary

The Max Interval Plyo work out is essentially “insanity personified”. It’s tough, it’s extreme, and yes it pulls no punches. You’re required to bust your tail, and the structure of the program provides you with an abundance of opportunity to put your money where you mouth is if you believe you’re in great condition.
